Zoom has many options and has always been a great tool. With many options comes much confusion and … many options.
One option is for a user (such as teenager) to change their display name and picture. I am sure you can imagine where that could go…(and has gone). Of course teachers should kick anyone out with improper names. BUT What if one Kid types another kids name… and says “rude” things?...
Have less fear as there are options!
If you use Zoom (options) details are below.
If you are getting a new computer or getting re-provisoned
You will loose
A Utah student is in the National/World news for creating a popular cool program!
Too bad it’s for “cheaters”!
And it is on PBS, Frontline
(Some items from the article)
…Quizlet, another homework help website, entire test keys are posted
…said she found 90% of the answers for her senior English and history classes online
…“they were classes I needed to graduate and none of that information I will need in my career.”
My input is that these kids are not “cheating on purpose” They may sincerely look for a help and type in the question from the book or other sources… And google does it’s job to find the same question… and possibly an answer. Posted by, maybe even a teacher doing a side gig for a different website such as Brainly! https://boards.greenhouse.io/brainly. We teach students how to find answers and content on-line. Now when they look up content.. they’re cheating?
Best part of it all
is the fact that In person teaching (us, and our jobs) are wanted/needed!
“He believes the best tool to combat cheating is cementing the student to teacher relationships.”
Yes, recoding or manipulated a website to take a picture of a higher score on the student screen... Is cheating. Looking up an answer on the internet - not cheating.
What about Modules?
Q. Can we “hide” or not show the modules?
A. Not like you can Assignments, but…
There are ways!
Caveat - Acrobat is a very powerful and there are other ways to create a form! I believe this to be the simplest way as teachers already have numerous documents / worksheets already created.

I am hearing quite a few teachers recording their zoom meetings and posting them online for DL students as content. While this seems like a good idea keep in mind that that is NOT the intent of that particular software. Read the quote below from my director.
"I spoke to UETN today and they said, once the license with Zoom is fully in place (they expect next week) there will be a 1.0 GB limit for cloud recordings. Those recordings are auto-deleted after 30 days."
Your 1Gb at Zoom will fill up fast. and you WILL lose those recordings after 30 days - as a few have already discovered!
It does NOT mean it wont work! The work-around is to record it and then download the movie file and save it to your google drive.
Even better is you should be using ScreenCastify or Loom to… (ready for this) Record your recording! 😉 I am not convinced you should be delivering CONTENT in Zoom. Content should be recorded in ScreenCastify/loom and saved appropriately in your G drive. Zoom is for meetings... I know there are fine lines in this but if you want to record you meetings... Still use the SC/Loom to record your screens. Please see the other posts for those instructions. screen-recordings.html
An updated side note. If you have Zoom meetings with a few students it would be a good idea to record it and keep it on your computer. Just in case you ever need to refer back to it. CYA, for good and bad.
